Diwali Firecrackers Ignite Massive Blaze in Assam Village

Guwahati: A fire tore through Shingimari village in Assam's Morigaon district on Diwali. Stray remnants from fireworks landed on a massive pile of jute stalks owned by resident Munindra Biswas, sparking the blaze. Flames hit 50 feet in height. The fire jumped to a neighboring heap of paddy straw.

Panic gripped the neighborhood. Residents feared the inferno would swallow nearby homes and private property. Local people raised the alarm quickly. Morigaon Fire and Emergency Services arrived to fight the heat. Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force joined the fight alongside locals to bring the fire under control.

The crew stopped the spread. They saved the residential houses from destruction. While the exact scale of loss remains unknown, officials confirmed the damage was contained. One report stated the incident occurred when "remnants of firecrackers burst by unidentified persons fell on a large heap of jute stalks." No casualties were reported.
