Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Moran and Matak community leaders in Dibrugarh on October 14. He sat down with six Moran groups and five Matak groups to hash out a list of local demands. The groups want Scheduled Tribe status. They also pushed for community council elections and better access to education.

Talks stretched across the social, cultural, and economic needs of both communities. The groups sought more medical seats and investment in sports development. Sarma promised to look into these welfare concerns. He aimed to balance progress with the protection of local heritage.

Sarma spoke on the goal of equal growth for all. "Every community should have the opportunity to progress while preserving its distinct identity, heritage and traditions," the Chief Minister said. He vowed to keep the state government working with these organizations to handle their demands as a priority. He left the groups with a promise that their aspirations will get due consideration.
