Guwahati: Atul Bora told party workers in Dhemaji that regionalism drives the Asom Gana Parishad. The AGP president spoke during the party’s 42nd foundation day event on Wednesday. He argued that the party must bring the younger generation into the fold to build a self-reliant Assam. Bora wants the party to focus on growth and state interests. The work ahead requires unity.

"The AGP's ascent does not mean strengthening the party alone. What it truly means is to gain people's trust and confidence, protect the interests of the state and its people, and ensure all-round development," Bora said. He currently serves as the state panchayat minister. AGP working president Keshab Mahanta labeled the group a protector of indigenous people. He claimed the party stays committed to progressive nationalism.

The event drew several high-profile guests. BJP ministers Ranoj Pegu and Jayanta Malla Baruah attended the celebration. AGP MPs Birendra Prasad Baishya and Phani Bhushan Choudhury also showed up. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sent greetings, calling the party a key partner in the NDA government's development plans.

Bora later posted on X about the party’s roots. He noted that the group follows ideals forged in sacrifice. The party started on October 14, 1985, at a convention in Golaghat. This followed the Assam Accord, which ended the six-year Assam Agitation against illegal immigration.
