Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ridiculed the Congress party on Monday, October 13. He took a jab at their demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The controversy stems from the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Sarma posted his thoughts on X. He wrote, "Good thing the bowler wasn't from Congress. He'd have walked off claiming the ball was tampered with, the pitch was fixed and demanded the umpire's resignation!" This jab targeted Congress protests against the Election Commission.

Sarma was in Dibrugarh district to open a new multi-sport complex in Naharkatia. The project cost Rs 22 crore in its first phase. It sits on 34 bighas of land. The facility features an international-standard cricket ground, a swimming pool, a football pitch, an athletics field, a hockey ground, and a gymnasium.

Athletes in the region now have better access to training for state and national competitions. After opening the cricket ground, the Chief Minister unlocked the swimming pool and football field. He watched a match between the Naharkatia Sports Association and the Duliajan Sports Association.

Several officials joined him for the event. Those present included Sports Minister Biswajit Daimary, Labour Minister Rameswar Teli, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, and Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi.
