Sivasagar MLA Demands CBI Flood Probe as Protest Hits 216 Hours

Guwahati: Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi is calling for a full CBI inquiry into the flood disaster that killed 109 people in Upper Assam. He reached 216 hours of continuous protest at 10:30 am on October 11, marking the start of his 10th day on the picket line. The site sits dangerously close to the power center of the state. The Chief Minister works just 100 metres away, while the Chief Secretary operates from an office roughly 60 metres from the demonstration.

Gogoi argues that the administration has a moral duty to address the concerns of its citizens. He warned that ignoring these actions only invites more intense forms of public agitation. He remains firm in his position as an elected representative. "When citizens sit on a democratic protest, it is the government's duty to come forward, engage with them, discuss their concerns and arrive at a resolution," he said.

The legislator aimed his frustration directly at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He claimed the government treats the ongoing satyagraha as an ego issue rather than a crisis. Gogoi urged the state leadership to move past personal pride to focus on the victims of the disaster. "I appeal to the Chief Minister to come out of his ego and focus on serving the people of Assam," Gogoi stated.
