Guwahati: A second teenager died in Guwahati after a bridge wreck. Joel Riame, 17, passed away at GNRC Hospital on October 10. He had been fighting for his life following a crash near the Jatinga Bridge in Dima Hasao. The disaster hit at 9:30 pm on October 9 when a motorcycle carrying Riame and 18-year-old Lalchungir Khelma spiraled out of control. They plunged into the Diyung River off National Highway 27.
Police pulled the pair from the water. Rescuers rushed them to Haflong Civil Hospital for emergency care. Doctors declared Khelma dead upon arrival. Riame, a Boro Haflong resident, suffered critical injuries and transferred to Guwahati, but he died shortly after. One official report stated the accident was one of two separate road mishaps on the highway that night.
A 22-year-old woman, Puja Maibangsa, died in the second collision. Her scooter struck roadside barriers near Semdikhor under the Mahur Police Station. Authorities provided no further context on the causes of these crashes. The string of events has left three families in mourning.
