Guwahati: Haflong United took home the second Sengya Tularam Trophy on Sunday. They beat Dehangi Nayung in a final showdown at the Assam Cricket Stadium in Umrangso. Fifteen teams from across Dima Hasao competed for the title. The winners walked away with Rs 2 lakh. Runners-up Dehangi Nayung earned Rs 1 lakh. One standout player received a Royal Enfield motorcycle as Man of the Tournament.
The District Sports Office organized the event to honor Senapati Tularam, the last Army General of the Dimasa Kingdom. Herojit Jidung, the Member of Autonomous Council for the Sports Department, stated the tournament serves a specific purpose. "The tournament was aimed at providing young cricketers from the district with a platform to showcase their talent and pursue opportunities at higher levels," Jidung said.
Jidung pledged continued support for local athletes in football, Taekwondo, and boxing. He noted that infrastructure in Dima Hasao has grown under the leadership of CEM Debolal Gorlosa. The region now boasts dedicated cricket facilities, football grounds, and a new indoor stadium. The trophy ceremony drew a crowd of local officials including CEM Debolal Gorlosa, EM Probita Johari, and EM Donpainon Thaosen.
