Guwahati: Poet Abhijeet Gogoi took the stage at the Kochi International Book Festival 2026 on October 30. He joined a book discussion organized by the Sahitya Akademi. The event kicked off the festival, following an inaugural ceremony attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Sahitya Akademi Secretary Dr. Varun Gulati chaired the session.

Gogoi showcased his work, Murmur in Wilderness: A Translation of Assamese Poetry. Purbayon Publication recently released the collection. It compiles English translations of his Assamese verse. Five translators from Assam handled the project: Ananda Bormudoi, Bibhash Choudhury, Nirendranath Thakuria, Bibekananda Choudhury, and Sudhir Kumar Das. The academy highlighted the importance of such events, stating the organization "seeks to promote regional-language literature at national and international book festivals."

The session also covered two other works. Attendees discussed Apoorva Sarma’s book, Sacred Mountains: Environmental Ethics in Hindu Thoughts. They also examined Nandini’s Bharathiya Lokathantra Aur Ram Katha. The Sahitya Akademi continues to bring young voices to these global stages.
