Kohima: A delegation from the Kamrup Metropolitan Zila Sahitya Sabha met with Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on July 29 at Sovima village in Chümoukedima. Led by president Prafulla Barman, the group arrived to advocate for the revival of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and to build lasting cultural links between Assam and Nagaland.
The visitors pointed to the deep history of the institution. Reverend Sahitya Charyya Padmanath Gohain Baruah, the founding president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, started the Kohima branch in 1895 while working as a teacher in the city. It remains the first office of the Assam Sahitya Sabha. It represents a history of goodwill and mutual respect.
Dr. Rio welcomed the delegation. He backed their plan to restore the historic site and strengthen ties. The Chief Minister promised that the state government will provide full support for the revival, noting, "The State Government would extend its full support for the revival and development of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and would take appropriate steps to facilitate the proposed initiatives."
He wants more exchanges. Teisovikuolie Therie, Deputy Director of the Nagaland Art and Culture Department, said the visit marks a step toward deeper regional collaboration and honoring shared literary history.
