New Book Documents Rengma Naga History

Kohima: A new book chronicling the history of the Rengma Nagas hit the shelves on August 29 at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur. The volume, titled Political, Social, Economic and Religious History of the Rengma Nagas, examines the traditions and life of the community. Kvulo Lorin, Chairman of the Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation and Director of Tetso College, released the work. Scholars and well-wishers packed the room for the event.

Dr. A. Nshoga wrote the book to lock down the community's past. He argued that the political, social, economic, and religious pillars of Rengma life are linked and cannot be separated. Nshoga wants to ensure future generations have access to their own heritage. The work serves as a record of customs and institutions that define the group. History defines identity. “A people who know their history can better understand…” Nshoga said.

Lorin praised the research and effort required for the project. He urged younger generations to study the text to grasp their roots. Lorin also pushed for more books to be written before this history fades away. Dr. A. Nshoga chaired the programme, and Penlole Nyenthang offered the vote of thanks.
