Kohima: Prof. Jungmayangla Longkumer of Nagaland University launched two books in Dimapur on November 6. She praised the works for highlighting family bonds and the courage to imagine new worlds. These books serve as a bridge between generations. One preserves past wisdom while the other explores tomorrow.
Dr. Mary N. Odyuo, an associate professor at Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, wrote "My Mother's Mekhela." She found inspiration after eight years of grief. She finally wore her late mother's favorite Mekhela set after it appeared alongside her own selection. She took it as a sign. Prof. Longkumer, her mentor, pushed her to turn this healing journey into a book. Dr. Odyuo hopes her children will now know their grandmother through these pages.
Her nine-year-old son, Janthungo Ngullie, debuted his own work titled "The Story of Robo" Season I. A Class IV student at Delhi Public School, Dimapur, he spent his summer vacation building the comic book. A teacher challenged him to ditch technology for a day, which sparked the project. Sentinaro Longkumer, chief editor at 6th Finger Publishers in Kohima, confirmed the boy handled everything from the cover art to the inner pages alone. The event included a review by Kedale Sebu Kapfu, a song by Nzanbeni Odyuo Patton, and a saxophone solo by Mathung Odyuo. Wondangbeni Kikon Odyuo chaired the program.
