Kohima: Dimapur is celebrating Durga Puja with 54 pandals erected across the city. Dimapur Bengali Samaj president K.K. Paul confirmed the count while noting that a committee is currently inspecting these sites. Judges score the setups based on security, organization, and discipline. The Hindu Seva Samiti provides the prize money for the winning displays.

Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, the in-charge of Bharat Sevashram Sangha and chairman of PVHSS, praised the event. He noted the festival remains globally significant. "Goddess Durga’s victory over Mahishasura symbolised the triumph of good over evil and the restoration of peace and harmony," he said. The Swami also linked the divine family members to societal roles, mapping Lord Ganesha to commerce, Goddess Lakshmi to finance, Goddess Saraswati to education, and Lord Kartikeya to defense.

Local leaders extended formal greetings to the Hindu community. Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio wished for truth and righteousness to prevail. Deputy Chief Ministers Y. Patton and T.R. Zeliang added their own well wishes. Patton asked citizens to foster unity, while Zeliang expressed hope for continued regional harmony.

Security remains a focus. Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj thanked police and traffic units for controlling the crowds. He shared condolences for the lives lost during a crowd incident in Kolkata on October 17. Beyond the festivities, the Swami pushed for ecological awareness, asking residents to plant trees and ban plastic. Bharat Sevashram Sangha continues its community mission by maintaining a medical unit and ambulance service to assist with emergencies.
