Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio met with a delegation from the Kamrup Metropolitan Zila Sahitya Sabha of Assam on Monday. The group, led by president Prafulla Barman, gathered at Sovima village in Chümoukedima. They discussed plans to revive the Kohima Sahitya Sabha. This institution holds significant historical weight for both states.
Reverend Sahitya Charyya Padmanath Gohain Baruah started the organization in 1895. He was a teacher in Kohima at the time. The group serves as the first office of the Assam Sahitya Sabha. It symbolizes years of goodwill and respect between the people of Nagaland and Assam.
The delegates want to build long-term cultural ties. Dr. Rio welcomed the group. He promised the state government will back the project. The Chief Minister confirmed his commitment to this goal. "The State Government would extend its full support for the revival and development of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha," he stated.
Officials see this as a big move. Teisovikuolie Therie, the Deputy Director of the Art and Culture Department in Nagaland, said the visit marks an important step towards deepening inter-state cultural collaboration and honouring the region’s shared literary history.
