Arunachal Pradesh Resolves Five Border Disputes Amid Ongoing Tensions with Assam

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung announced that five inter-state border disputes with Assam are now resolved. Regional committees continue to negotiate remaining contested areas. Natung urged residents along the border to keep the peace during an event in Yupia on July 28.

This push for stability follows violent friction in the Tarasso area. On July 15, Assam forest personnel from the Behali Reserve Forest moved to block construction on houses they deemed unauthorised. Locals claim the land as their home. Tensions spiked when occupants reportedly fired roughly 50 rounds. No one was hurt. MLAs from both sides met afterward and agreed to keep the status quo at the boundary.

Natung inaugurated a new Rs 3-crore fire station at Yupia in Papum Pare district during the event. He also flagged off a fleet of new emergency vehicles. The Arunachal government has opened 13 new fire stations across state headquarters over the last three years. These efforts created 337 jobs, pushing the total firefighter count to 811. Natung credited the Arunachal Pradesh Police for their performance against illegal substances, stating, "Operation Dawn has led to major crackdowns on drug peddlers and trafficking networks over the past four years."
