Guwahati: Assam police stopped a drug shipment in Amingaon on August 1. Officers intercepted a Tata Nexon, registration AS 11-AA-6800, inside the Kamrup district after receiving a tip. They found a massive haul of narcotics hidden inside secret compartments built into the car. The bust netted 50,000 Yaba tablets containing methamphetamine, totaling 5 kilograms. Police also grabbed five soap boxes stuffed with 67.5 grams of heroin.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak led the raid. The officers arrested three men from Manipur at the scene. These suspects include 24-year-old Kh Tabish and 41-year-old Thekcham Avinash Singh, both from Thoubal district. They also detained 38-year-old Nongmaithem Biswajit of Imphal West. Officials put the street value of the haul at 12.5 crore rupees. The CID valuation of the contraband stands at approximately 7.5 crore rupees.
Authorities have started legal action against the trio. Detectives are now working to track the source and final destination of the drugs. This operation marks a win in the state's push against smuggling. Officials stated the "seizure is being seen as a major success for Assam Police in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and efforts to prevent the movement of narcotics into Lower Assam districts."
