Police Seize 20,000 Yaba Tablets in Kohima Drug Bust

Kohima: Kohima Police caught two men with 20,000 suspected Yaba tablets on October 5. Officers stopped a Hyundai Venue at the Kidima Prayer Park Junction. They spotted a modified floorboard during a routine check. The metal showed signs of fresh welding and paint. Police cut into the structural cavities to find the stash.

The haul consisted of 10 medium packets containing smaller bundles of methamphetamine. Officials estimate the street value at Rs 1.60 crore, calculating each tablet at Rs 800. Authorities arrested Nazrul Islam, 36, and Deben Kumar Das, 40. Both men hail from the Silchar district of Assam.

The suspects claimed they were moving the drugs from Churachandpur in Manipur toward Silchar. The Kezocha Police Station registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigators are now working to identify the broader smuggling network. "Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network and backward linkages involved in the alleged interstate drug trafficking," police said.
