Agartala: Tripura kicks off a Special Intensive Revision of its electoral rolls on September 5. Chief Electoral Officer Brijesh Pandey announced the move, which aims to ensure all data remains accurate and inclusive. The state must purge dead, duplicate, shifted, and ineligible entries. The qualifying date for this process is October 1, 2026.
This initiative impacts all 60 assembly segments. It covers 3,356 polling stations across the state. Currently, Tripura counts 28.97 lakh registered voters. That total includes 14.52 lakh men and 14.45 lakh women. A massive team of 3,356 booth-level officers and 375 supervisors will manage the work.
From September 15 to October 14, officers will visit households three times each. They will provide pre-filled enumeration forms for electors to verify and sign. Electors can also use the ECINET application or a designated portal. Pandey noted, "During the house-to-house enumeration, no documents will be collected."
If officials need extra verification later, they will issue formal notices. Aadhaar cards may verify identity, but Pandey stressed, "Aadhaar is an identity proof but not proof of citizenship." Voters linked to the 2005 electoral roll, or those with parents in those records, face lighter requirements. They need only provide basic identity proof.
The draft roll hits public notice boards and the official website on October 21. Citizens have until November 20 to file claims or objections using forms 6, 7, and 8. The state will publish the final electoral roll on December 23, 2026.
Aggrieved voters have clear legal recourse. Under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, anyone can appeal an officer's decision to the District Magistrate and Collector. A second appeal follows with the Chief Electoral Officer. Training for all staff and political stakeholders is already complete.
