Agartala: Tripura kicks off a Special Intensive Revision of its electoral rolls on September 5. The state-wide operation covers all 60 Assembly constituencies. Chief Electoral Officer Brijesh Pandey confirmed the move follows Election Commission of India directives. The project aims to scrub deceased, duplicate, and ineligible voters from the records. It also seeks to capture every eligible citizen.
Tripura currently counts 28.97 lakh registered voters. This includes 14.52 lakh men and 14.45 lakh women. The state maintains 3,356 polling stations. To manage the workload, officials deployed 3,356 Booth Level Officers and 375 supervisors. These teams will conduct three mandatory visits to every household between September 15 and October 14. They will provide pre-filled enumeration forms for residents to verify and sign. Electors can also submit these forms via the ECINET application or a dedicated portal.
Pandey stressed that BLOs will not collect documents during these initial house visits. "During the house-to-house enumeration, no documents will be collected," he told reporters. If the Electoral Registration Officer requires further proof, they will issue formal notices later. While Aadhaar helps establish identity, Pandey clarified it "shall not be treated as proof of citizenship."
The process includes a specific historical check. BLOs are linking current data with 2005 electoral rolls. Residents appearing in those 2005 records, or those whose parents appear there, avoid the need for additional documentation. The qualifying date for new voter eligibility is October 1, 2026. The draft roll appears October 21. Citizens have until November 20 to file claims or objections using Forms 6, 7, and 8. Aggrieved individuals may file appeals to the District Election Officer or the CEO under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
The final electoral roll drops December 23. Training for election staff and political agents is finished. Helpdesks are now open at DEO and ERO offices. Toll-free numbers are active for public assistance.
