Guwahati: Tension boiled over in No. 2 Nawaibil after the body of Mina Kumari Chauhan turned up in the Doyang River on Monday. She went missing Sunday. Locals immediately pinned the death on her husband and his family. The community demand for justice quickly turned into a volatile standoff.

A mob gathered in the West Karbi Anglong district to confront the family. The situation grew ugly as the crowd became agitated. Police scrambled to the scene to maintain order. They fired several rounds into the air to break up the gathering and stop the protest from spinning out of control. It worked. The area is now calm.

Authorities have not yet established if the husband or his kin played a role in the death. The specific cause of her demise remains a mystery. Police are investigating the case, but no arrests have been made. Officials stated, "The circumstances surrounding Chauhan's death remain unclear." Detectives continue to hunt for answers as the community waits for results.
