Guwahati: Four impoverished widows from Dhing, Assam, say two men swindled them out of 3 lakh rupees. The women, all residents of the same village, claim Mofidul Islam and Shahjahan Ali of Dhakai Basti took the cash under the guise of finishing their land mutation paperwork. They paid in two installments: 1 lakh up front and another 2 lakh later. The deal fell through. The promised records never arrived.

Anowara Khatun, Monowara Khatun, Hanufa Khatun, and Halima Khatun reached out for a refund. The men responded with violence. They brandished machetes and sticks to chase the women away. Many of these victims survive by working in homes or begging door-to-door. They borrowed funds and took out loans just to make the payments. The loss has shattered their financial stability.

The group filed a written report with the Nagaon Superintendent of Police but reports no progress. Instead, they claim a Dhing Police Station officer intimidated them. The women allege the officer has ties to the suspects, stating: "The investigating officer at Dhing Police Station threatened and intimidated them." Frustrated by the silence from law enforcement, the four women took their story to the media to demand justice.
