Guwahati: Assam police caught nine foreign nationals in Dhubri district for illegal entry into India. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrests on October 27. He handed the group over to the Border Security Force for expulsion across the India-Bangladesh border. The Chief Minister kept quiet on their specific nationalities, ethnicities, and the precise spot where officers made the collars.
Sarma leaned hard into his state policy against border jumpers. He took to social media to highlight the government stance. "Last stop: Dhubri. Next step: expulsion," he wrote on X. He warned of the consequences for those ignoring national boundaries. "Cross illegally, face the law. Firm borders. Zero compromise. Yeh Naya Assam hai," he added.
Dhubri sits along a 267.5-km international stretch shared with Bangladesh. Three other districts share this line, including Sribhumi, Cachar, and South Salmara-Mankachar. Assam currently hosts an Integrated Check Post at Sutarkandi in Sribhumi. The Northeast region maintains two more check posts at Dawki in Meghalaya and Akhaura in Tripura. A final site sits at Darranga, where Assam meets the Bhutan border.
