Dhubri Wraps Up Durga Puja With River Immersions

Guwahati: Durga Puja festivities wrapped up in Dhubri, Assam, on October 21. Devotees flocked to the Netai Dhubuni Ghat along the Brahmaputra River to bid farewell to Goddess Durga. The day marked Bijoya Dashami, the final stop of the five-day celebration.

District officials kept a close watch. They deployed heavy security at the ghat to keep the immersion processions orderly and peaceful. The air filled with the traditional beats of dhak and dhol as worshippers brought clay idols of the ten-armed goddess to the water.

Before the march to the river, women gathered at the Harisabha Temple. They took part in Sindoor Khela, a ritual where married women apply vermilion to each other. This tradition precedes the departure of the deity. The festival officially began with Bel Bodhan on Shashti. Organizers noted the importance of the final day, stating, "Bijoya Dashami marks the conclusion of the five-day Durga Puja celebrations and commemorates the victory of good over evil."
