Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opened a new permanent building for the historic Sarbajanin Durga Mandir in Dhubri on Saturday. The site serves as the heart of Tamarhat religious life. It has stood for more than a century.
Sarma returned to the site after first visiting in 2021 when crews were still building the structure. The new complex features a specific architectural design meant to improve the aesthetic of the grounds. The community prepares for the 108th Durga Puja celebration as this project reaches completion.
The event drew several high-ranking officials. Bodoland Territorial Region chief Hagrama Mohilary joined the ceremony. Assam Cabinet Ministers Ashok Singhal and Aswini Ray Sarkar were also in attendance. The Chief Minister spoke with residents about local needs. People pushed for a bridge over the Gangadhar river to connect Tamarhat with Kathaltali. They also asked for hospital upgrades and a new commercial complex.
Sarma promised a review of these requests. He stated, "The government would examine the demands raised by the people and consider necessary measures." Officials will decide on the viability of these infrastructure projects following the inauguration event.
