Guwahati: The Brahmaputra River swallowed a Jal Jeevan Mission pipe-water project in the Dhapanpara locality of Fakirganj. The infrastructure plunged into the riverbed as violent erosion reclaimed the shoreline. It happened fast. The facility failed to deliver a single drop of water to the community before the river claimed it.

Erosion in the Dhubri region is out of control. It is eating residential land and agricultural fields at a terrifying rate. More than a hundred villagers now face a dire drinking water crisis. They live in constant fear that the river will take their homes next.

Locals blame the Water Resources Department for the disaster. They say officials ignored repeated pleas for bank protection. The work never arrived. Exasperated residents expressed intense frustration over the recurring destruction, alleging that despite repeated appeals to the Water Resources Department, adequate bank protection measures were not implemented in time.

The community needs help. They are demanding that the state government deploy temporary erosion-control measures immediately. They also need restored water services to survive the coming weeks.
