Mizoram Minister Pushes to Revive Traditional Mizo Values

Aizawl: Mizoram Art and Culture Minister C Lalsawivunga wants his people to live their identity. He spoke Friday at a cultural gathering in Bungzung village, Champhai district. The local YMA branch and the government organized the event. Lalsawivunga says true culture goes deeper than music.

"Culture is not confined to songs and dances," the minister said. He told the crowd that Mizo values shape the society. He pointed specifically to Tlawmngaihna, a core Mizo principle centered on selfless service. He also demanded more respect for the elderly, noting a worrying decline in that behavior across modern families.

The minister urged the younger generation to work hard and act with honesty. He believes these traits foster self-reliance and community growth. To mark the commitment, the government set aside Rs 1.2 lakh for the Sikpui Lung historic site. This money pays for the preservation and beautification of the heritage location. Lalsawivunga promised more cash if the current budget falls short.
