Aizawl: Mizoram launches its annual Anthurium Festival on October 1. The three-day event runs through October 3. Officials picked Reiek and Ailawng in Mamit district as the site. The venue sits just 13 kilometers from Aizawl.
Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar led a planning meeting on Wednesday. He highlighted how visitor numbers drive money into the state. "Tourism in Mizoram has witnessed significant growth," Hmar said. The influx helps everyone from taxi drivers to small tea-stall owners.
Organizers packed the schedule with activities. Visitors can trek or explore caves at Khuangchera Puk, Thawngpawnga Puk, and Ngaitei Puk. The festival also features traditional Mizo games, shooting matches, and children's programs. Guests can wander through local flower gardens before watching Leikapui Night performances. A grand concert closes the festival.
Government departments and the Young Mizo Association are working together to manage the crowds. They met with the Zo Anthurium Grower Society and local community leaders from Reiek and Ailawng to finalize plans. Officials are drafting a travel advisory to keep traffic moving on the Reiek route. They want to ensure the event runs without causing headaches for daily commuters.
