Agartala: Nayan Nama sits in police custody today. He faces murder charges for the death of 28-year-old Sujita Das. The killing occurred Saturday night at the Kamalasagar Bhadra Mela near Kasba Eco Park. Witnesses say a family dispute turned deadly in seconds.
Sujita Das and Pritam Nama lived together for three-and-a-half years. Both were previously married to others and each had a child. Pritam left his family to stay at Das’s home near the ONGC First Gate. His father, Sanjit Nama, and brother Nayan despised the arrangement. They repeatedly pushed Pritam to return home.
The tension boiled over at the fair. The father and brother operated a stall nearby while the couple walked through the crowd. Local youths taunted Sanjit about his son’s whereabouts. This triggered a heated argument between the father and Pritam. The situation escalated fast. Pritam began hitting his father. Nayan jumped in to break up the fight. When Das allegedly joined the fray, Nayan grabbed a knife from the stall area. He drove the blade into her neck. She collapsed on the spot.
Medics at Madhupur Primary Health Centre stabilized her briefly. They referred her to GBP Hospital for critical care. She died shortly after arrival. Police arrested Nayan later that night at Hapania Hospital. Her mother, Gouri Das, filed a formal complaint at Madhupur police station against both Sanjit and Nayan Nama. Police took Nayan to the crime scene Sunday for a reconstruction. A forensic team assisted the investigation. Police officials stated that the "deceased, identified as Sujita Das (28), was not legally married to Pritam Nama." Nayan appeared before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday as officers requested his remand.
