Agartala: A Gomati district court sentenced Kajal Kanya Jamatia to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for killing her husband. District and Sessions Judge at Udaipur delivered the verdict on August 25. The case stems from a brutal attack on April 27, 2023.

Kajal attacked Prem Kumar Jamatia with a chopper inside their home at Kashipada Colony. The strike left the victim with a fatal cut-throat injury. She surrendered to the Birganj police shortly after the incident. Police filed a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Inspector Bimal Baidya handled the investigation. He filed the chargesheet on May 31, 2023, while stationed at the Birganj police station. He now serves at the Central Training Institute in Gakulnagar, Sepahijala district.

The court reviewed the evidence and convicted the woman under Section 304 Part-I of the IPC. As local officials noted regarding the legal proceedings, the trial concluded with the court finding the accused "guilty" of the offense.
