Agartala: Sujita Deb died Saturday night after a stabbing attack in the Kamalasagar area. The 28-year-old was walking home to Nehal Chandra Nagar from the Kasba Kali temple with her sister, Pinki Deb, after attending an annual fair. Her father-in-law, Sanjit Nama, and brother-in-law, Nayan Nama, blocked their path and sparked a violent argument.

Sanjit Nama appeared enraged during the confrontation. Pritam Nama, the victim's husband, and Pinki Deb attempted to calm the situation. Nayan Nama then stabbed Sujita Deb multiple times on the roadside. She lost consciousness and responders took her to Madhupur Hospital. Doctors later referred her to TMC and GB Pant Hospital, where staff declared her dead on arrival.

Pritam Nama noted his family never approved of his second marriage. He explained, "She (the deceased) was my second wife. I got married earlier, but our marriage couldn't survive and I decided to get separated. Three years ago, Sujita and I got married and since then we have been living in rented accommodation away from my own house. My family didn't accept our marriage."

Pinki Deb witnessed the attack firsthand. She stated that the in-laws confronted them because they refused to accept the marriage. The mother and brother of the deceased now demand harsh punishment for the accused men.
