Guwahati: A Sonitpur district court sentenced Abdul Qadir to life imprisonment on Friday for a 2011 murder. Qadir killed Yasumuddin, a Kurukani Latetapu village resident, on September 9, 2011. He attacked the victim outside his home using sharp weapons alongside two accomplices. Yasumuddin died immediately. His wife also sustained injuries during the brutal assault. Tezpur Police investigated the case. The judge ordered Qadir to pay a Rs 20,000 fine. He faces an extra six months of rigorous jail time if he fails to pay.
In a separate case, Jaleswar Police arrested Rabial Molla for allegedly driving his wife to suicide. Julekha Khatun died at their home in Gaurnagar Shalbari 1st Part village on November 16, 2025. Her family claims Molla abused her for five years. They say he constantly demanded cash and a motorcycle as dowry. The victim’s family further alleged that Molla had an extramarital affair while working outside the state. He reportedly sent Julekha videos of the affair, causing her intense emotional trauma.
Molla went into hiding after the death. Police finally caught the suspect on the night of August 1. Authorities registered Case No. 69/26 under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He is currently in judicial custody. Officials noted, "The investigation into the case is underway."
