Agartala: Police arrested eight people on Saturday after a patient died at the Swapna Foundation Rehab Centre. The group includes the owner, Shubham Biswas, along with office staff and other residents of the facility. Authorities filed charges under Sections 118(1) and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The trouble started with a complaint from Shahana Das Bhattacharya on August 16. She reported that her husband, Tuhinsubhra Bhattacharya, suffered a brutal beating at the centre on August 9. Medics at GBP Hospital declared the man dead upon arrival. NCC police station officer-in-charge Paritosh Das said, "Shahana Das Bhattacharya lodged a complaint at the police station on August 16. She alleged that her husband, Tuhinsubhra Bhattacharya, was assaulted at the Swapna Foundation Rehab Centre on August 9. Following the alleged assault, he was taken to GBP Hospital, where doctors declared him dead."

Investigators discovered visible marks of violence on the victim's body. The case, numbered 59/2024, remains active as police look into financial irregularities. The family initially paid 5,000 rupees to admit the victim. They faced ongoing demands for more cash to cover treatments, drugs, and doctor visits. Police are now seeking remand for the eight suspects to continue their probe. This stands as the first complaint of this nature against the facility.
