Guwahati: Cachar Police and Assam Rifles intercepted 30,000 intoxicating tablets yesterday in Lakhipur. The haul has an estimated street value of Rs 1 crore. Officers acted on a specific tip-off regarding drug trafficking operations in the region. They moved fast.
Led by Lakhipur police station officer-in-charge Shankar Dayal, the team set up a tactical checkpoint in the Chiripul area. They flagged down a suspicious autorickshaw and searched the vehicle. Inside, they found two cartons holding 125 packets of pills. It was a major bust.
Police arrested two local men at the scene. They identified the suspects as 24-year-old Vishal Das of Shmashan Road and 26-year-old Arjun Das from Chiripul. Authorities booked both men under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Detectives are digging into the supply chain now. "Police are conducting further investigations to establish the source of the consignment and determine its intended destination," officials stated. The investigation remains active as officers track where the narcotics originated and where they were headed.
