Assam Police Launch Multi-District Raids Against Drugs, Theft, and Gambling

Guwahati: Assam police are hitting criminal networks hard. Officers executed raids across several districts, catching suspects involved in drug trafficking, fuel theft, gambling, and illegal storage.

In Katigorah, Cachar police seized 3,000 Yaba tablets. They arrested Hasan Ahmed, a local from Lahmali village, during a late-night operation on K.H. Road. Authorities value the haul at several lakh rupees. Police registered a case under the NDPS Act.

Tinsukia police uncovered a massive condensate theft racket. In a pre-dawn raid on Monday, July 13, officers discovered an illegal tap on an Oil India Limited pipeline. They seized 1,450 litres of stolen condensate stored in 25 plastic gallons and drums. Police arrested Dhanjit Chetia of Motapung village, while another suspect escaped. Investigators also found a hose pipe and a filtering setup. "Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team from Gelephukuri Outpost and Barekuri Police Station conducted an early morning raid and busted an illegal condensate theft operation involving unauthorised tapping of an OIL pipeline. One accused was apprehended, while others fled. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway," Assam Police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, law enforcement cracked down on gambling in Nagarbera. Officers raided a site in Khameri, arresting Monowar Hussain, Golap Ali, Shahjahan Ali, and Amjad Ali. Police recovered Rs 34,840 in cash and five mobile phones. A case is now active against all four men.

In the Nagaon district, Rupahihat police raided a private home to stop illegal fuel hoarding. They seized 12 domestic LPG cylinders from the residence of Giyasuddin in Koch Gaon. Police arrested the suspect. They are now tracing where the cylinders came from and if they were meant for commercial sale.
