Police Seize Drugs and Firearms in Dual Assam Raids

Guwahati: Police launched two separate anti-narcotics strikes across Assam, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of high-value contraband. In the Tinsukia district, officers from Lekhapani and Jagun caught Natong Kamcha, a resident of Nampong, Arunachal Pradesh. They intercepted him while he was moving goods from Nampong into Assam. Officers recovered four soap cases filled with drugs, a pistol, 15 rounds of live ammunition, and two mobile phones. Investigators are now checking Kamcha’s potential ties to the NSCN (IM) insurgent group.

Meanwhile, in Cachar, a joint force of Cachar Police and the 38 Assam Rifles shut down a massive trafficking operation at Motinagar, near the Bhuban Hill foothills. The team seized 1.10 lakh Yaba tablets weighing 14 kilograms and 223 grams of heroin stuffed into 10 soap cases. The stash carries a street value of roughly Rs 28 crore. Authorities arrested three men: Mayajul Haque, 23, Stelmon, 19, and Nur Hussain, 32. All three hail from the Kachudaram police jurisdiction.

Officials filed cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against the Cachar suspects. They continue to trace the origin and final destination of the massive drug shipment. Additional Superintendent of Police Manas Saikia vowed to keep the pressure on traffickers. "We will continue our anti-drug operations, and no person involved in narcotics trafficking will be spared," Saikia said.
