Guwahati: Locals found the body of 40-year-old Nilu Roy in a drain off Fakirtilla Road near the Syedpur Bypass on August 27. The victim, a local resident, vanished after leaving for a village kirtan on the evening of August 26. His family failed to find him throughout the night. By morning, investigators noted clear signs of sharp weapon trauma on the remains.
Police from the Silchar Sadar station arrived at the scene to start a preliminary probe. Family members Tushar Roy and Anup Roy called the victim a simple, poor man who leaves behind a wife and three children. They want the culprits behind bars immediately. This marks the second body recovered in Syedpur Part-II in just 15 days.
Suman Roy, representing the Sonabarighat GP president, blamed the nearby Bharatmala road construction for a spike in crime. He told officials: "Anti-social activities had increased in the area following the construction of the Bharatmala road." He urged authorities to build a permanent police patrol post in the Raipara area to curb the rising violence. The community remains on edge as detectives continue their work.
