Shillong: A private Alto belonging to Havildar Arbinda Roy of the 28th Battalion turned to scrap. It was found completely gutted outside the Upper Lampi Battalion Border Out Post in Boko on Wednesday. Roy left the car on the roadside because the approach road was too rough to reach the camp. It went up in flames overnight.
Police registered an FIR at the Lampi Border Police Outpost. No suspects are in custody. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of miscreants being involved in the incident. Investigators are currently checking the timeline and local activity to determine if this was arson or an accident.
A forensic team from Guwahati is heading to the site to gather samples. Senior police official Jan Kishore Gogoi plans to visit the scene soon. The border area remains a flashpoint following recent unrest in Shillong and Jorabat. Authorities are now bracing for potential instability. As officials work to secure the region, they have "appealed for calm as the probe continues."
