Assam Police Bust Motorcycle Theft Ring Operating Near Bangladesh Border

Guwahati: Assam Police caught four men in Meghalaya during a raid in the Mawsynram area. The team recovered two Yamaha motorcycles, plates AS-01-FV-4193 and AS-27-F-1263, allegedly stolen from the Pukhuripar area near Goreswar. Officers suspect the group planned to smuggle the bikes across the border to sell them in Bangladesh.

Goreswar officer-in-charge Hitesh Basumatary led the operation with help from Meghalaya authorities. The suspects are Sukram Boro of No. 3 Jalthengpar, Karan Chundi of Oubari, Nitu Das of Uparkhuti, and Babu Basumatary of Bangalipara. Police registered Case No. 59/26 at Goreswar Police Station. Officers now interrogate the men to expose a larger vehicle theft network.

Investigators confirmed Boro has a criminal history. Records show "Sukram Boro had previously been arrested in connection with a case related to the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)." Police are now tracking down other members involved in the theft and transit of these stolen vehicles.
