Imphal: Manipur Police launched a massive sweep on July 23, hauling in militants, a drug runner, and a high-profile fugitive. Officers detained T.H. Kaoni, a proclaimed offender wanted by the CBI Patna unit. He faced charges for using forged legal documents. Police handed him to the Anti-Corruption Branch in Imphal after a Special Judicial Magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant for his arrest.
Security forces also collared S. Palal Kuki, alias Lalboi Singson, in Molnom. He served as the finance head for the United Kuki National Army. Police blamed him for multiple extortion and firing cases. In another part of the state, police caught Gurumayum Khugamani Sharma, 37, of Imphal East. They identified him as an active cadre for the Kangleipak Communist Party involved in extortion.
The crackdown hit the Bishnupur district as well. Officers arrested Mayanglambam Tomba Singh, 39, at the Tera Urak checkpoint. Police linked him to the KYKL and accused him of orchestrating a blast at a Moirang petrol pump. He carried a 9 mm pistol, a magazine, and 11 live rounds of varying calibers. No one died in that explosion.
Anti-narcotics efforts yielded results in Thoubal. Police arrested Mrs. Leila, 30, from Lilong Bazar. They seized 10 soap cases containing 389 grams of suspected heroin. Officials remain focused on these cases. Manipur Police stated, "Further investigation is underway in all the cases."
