Manipur Security Forces Arrest Five Insurgents in Extortion Crackdown

Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police locked up five members of banned insurgent groups during raids in Bishnupur and Imphal West. These operations targeted ongoing extortion and illegal recruitment schemes across the state.

Officers from the Bishnupur Central District Police struck first in Ngangkhalawai. They caught Akhom Premkumar Singh, 55, and Ningthoujam Jiten Singh, 46, for alleged extortion. Both men belong to the KCP Nongdrenkhomba faction. The police said the arrests were part of a broader push to stabilize the region.

On August 8, the team apprehended 21-year-old Khwairakpam Rojit Singh under the Moirang Police Station. He allegedly recruited fighters for the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. In a separate sweep under Nambol Police Station, officers grabbed 37-year-old Naorem Priyokumar Singh. He faced charges for extortion in his home neighborhood.

Lamsang police units scoured the Lamdeng Khunou area to find 39-year-old Konsam Boboy Singh. He operates for the KCP Apunba faction. Guards also picked up 54-year-old Khangembam Subhash Singh in Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi on August 7. He is a member of the Revolutionary People's Front and the People's Liberation Army. Security forces maintain that these men are linked to ongoing "insurgent activities, including extortion and recruitment, in the state."
