Security Forces Arrest Six Militants in Manipur Crackdown

Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police swept through Bishnupur and Imphal West districts to arrest six insurgents. The crackdown targeted individuals linked to proscribed groups engaged in extortion and recruitment. The operations spanned from August 7 to August 8.

Police caught two KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) members in the Ngangkhalawai area. These suspects are 55-year-old Akhom Premkumar Singh of Thanga Ngaram and 46-year-old Ningthoujam Jiten Singh of Langol Ningthou Leikai. Officers also nabbed a KCP (Apunba) cadre, 39-year-old Konsam Boboy Singh, during a search in the Lamdeng Khunou area.

The KYKL suffered two losses. Authorities arrested 21-year-old Khwairakpam Rojit Singh in Thamnapokpi Makha for recruiting new members. They also grabbed 37-year-old Naorem Priyokumar Singh in Naorem Mayai Leikai for extortion. A final arrest occurred on August 7 in Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi. Troops detained 54-year-old Khangembam Subhash Singh, an active member of the RPF/PLA.

Officials confirmed the operation remains active. "Further investigation into the activities of the arrested individuals and their links with the banned outfits is underway." Authorities expect to uncover more details as interrogations proceed. These arrests represent a heavy blow to regional insurgent networks.
