Imphal: The Ministry of Home Affairs, the Manipur government, and Kuki-Zo insurgent groups signed a revised Suspension of Operations agreement in New Delhi. The deal holds the territorial integrity of Manipur intact. It mandates political dialogue inside the Indian Constitution. Officials confirmed the deal on Sunday.

The agreement covers the Kuki National Organisation and the United People’s Front. The new rules started immediately. They stay in effect for one year. The pact shifts seven designated camps away from sensitive zones. It also cuts the total number of camps. Currently, the groups run 14 camps in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi housing 2,200 armed cadres.

Cadres must now turn in their weapons to the nearest Central Reserve Police Force or Border Security Force base. The original 2008 pact included 25 groups: 17 from the Kuki National Organisation and eight from the United People’s Front. Senior representatives met to hammer out the details of this latest extension. According to officials, the agreement "upholds the territorial integrity of Manipur and provides for political dialogue within the framework of the Constitution of India."
