Imphal: Security forces hauled in a massive stash of weapons and explosives across Imphal West and Imphal East on Sunday. The seizures happened during anti-insurgency sweeps. A joint team including the Imphal West Commando, Patsoi Police, and the 33 Assam Rifles hit Khoirum Sabal. They found eight single-barrel breech-loading guns, a 9mm pistol, and an anti-riot gun.

The haul didn't stop there. Soldiers grabbed three No. 36 HE grenades, a white phosphorus grenade, and six empty magazines for SLR, INSAS, and .303 rifles. The team also counted 86 rounds of ammo, six anti-riot shells, and three communication sets. Officers stated, "Security personnel recovered four 9mm pistols with magazines, two single-barrel guns and a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 4.6 kg from the area."

Operations expanded to the foothills of Potshangbam Khunou under the Heingang Police Station. Police found a .32 pistol, a handmade barrel gun, and 20 No. 36 hand grenades. Further south, forces scoured the Khema Reserved Forest near the Napet Palli Forest Beat Officer. That site yielded 14 grenades, 162 live rounds, and 26 spent shells. Military gear including a BP iron plate and a BP jacket cover also turned up in the forest. Forces are keeping up the pressure to flush out insurgent hideouts throughout the region.

Beyond the hardware haul, the crackdown netted three insurgent suspects linked to the United National Liberation Front and the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. The search at Khema Reserved Forest also turned up additional gear including two stun shells, a rubber bullet, and ammunition chargers.

Authorities also picked up Konsam Sanatomba, an active member of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Koireng), from Lamlong in Imphal East. Police allege he was shaking down a non-Manipuri resident in Telepati for cash, using live rounds to drive his threats home. Further operations across the state saw the arrest of three alleged RPF/PLA cadres in Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts, alongside a separate drug arrest in Jiribam.
