Security Forces Arrest Six Insurgents and Seize Weapons in Manipur Raids

Imphal: Manipur security forces arrested six suspected insurgents and seized a cache of weapons, ammunition, and vehicles during targeted raids across valley districts. The 36-hour operation aimed to curb militant influence. Forces set up 113 checkpoints to tighten security.

Authorities apprehended Salam Bijanda Singh, 37, near Karkinos Hospital on Porompat Ayangpalli Road. Singh is an alleged member of the banned United People’s Party of Kangleipak. In Imphal East, police also captured Thongam Preethyngamba Meitei, 26, and Md. Motim, 31. Both men allegedly belong to the Kangleipak Communist Party-Nongdrenkhomba. Officials claimed the group targeted locals for cash. "Officials alleged that he was involved in extortion activities."

Separately, security teams nabbed Shaikhom Sunil Singh, 45, a self-styled Corporal of the Revolutionary People’s Front. They seized his Alto car near Lamboithong in Thoubal. Near the Angom Football Turf, officers arrested 46-year-old Chagisongtanbou Nkhamnamai. He carried an SLR rifle, a magazine, and 10 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. Police recovered a Bolero vehicle at the scene.

In a related operation on July 12, security forces moved into Yourabung Panthoibi Leikai under Lamlai Police Station. They arrested Ningombam Amuthoi Meitei, 30. The team found eight hand grenades in his possession. Meitei is linked to the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. All suspects and the confiscated hardware now sit with local police stations for processing.
