Imphal: Hundreds of internally displaced people gathered at the Wall of Remembrance in Tuibong on Thursday. They want the state to follow a June 11, 2026, Manipur High Court order. That order mandates equal relief supplies for non-camped displaced families. Authorities have until September 7, 2026, to act. The protesters also want Direct Benefit Transfer support to continue for camped families until permanent housing is ready.
Reuben Haokip, secretary of the IDP Welfare Committee in Churachandpur, says the district holds 4,389 non-camped families. That is 20,487 people total. They face crushing financial pressure. Land prices are high and state aid remains scarce. Haokip highlighted a local disparity, noting that unlike Imphal or Kangpokpi, leaders in Churachandpur have split the displaced into camped and non-camped categories. He stated, "A total of 4,389 non-camped IDP families, comprising 20,487 individuals, currently reside across the district."
The committee delivered a formal letter to the Deputy Commissioner. They received no response. They have reached out to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen for help. Local MLAs remain uncontacted for now. The committee intends to keep pushing through legal and administrative channels until they win full compliance and a home.
