Imphal: South East Manipur College, United College in Lambung, and Kha Manipur College in Kakching observed National Sports Day on August 27, 2026. The events honored hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand. Schools held these sessions under the Khelo India Samwad initiative to boost sports development and youth leadership.
Students joined a massive virtual broadcast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed over eight lakh participants across 1,600 locations. Participants discussed the evolution of India's sports ecosystem over the last 12 years.
At United College, over 100 people gathered. This included NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and staff. Elite National Referee Thumli Joyshing Monsang and football mentor Sh. Marconi Monsang led the local Yuva Samvaad dialogue. They answered student questions regarding sports in India and Chandel. The guests highlighted how athletics build physical and mental health. Th. Joyshing and Sh. Marconi noted, "The importance and relevance of sports in our daily lives."
Five students presented ideas on themes including the 2036 Olympics and governance. The group also pledged to support a drug-free India. Kha Manipur College hosted their own session in a multipurpose hall. Attendees included Principal Dr. Okram Rudrababu and Wushu coach Pebam Thoibi Devi. The programming focused on grassroots sports, youth empowerment, and preparing for future international games.

At Kha Manipur College, the event was organized by NSS Units I and II in partnership with My Bharat Kakching. Takhellambam Nandagopal and Pukhrambam Dhaneshwori served as the Programme Officers for the units. The day finished at United College with a performance of the national anthem.
Discussion topics at United College expanded to include the nation's preparations for hosting the Commonwealth Games. The five specific themes addressed by students were: Improving the Sports Ecosystem in the Country, Nurturing Talent for the 2036 Olympics, Creating Youth Leaders and Youth Participation in Governance, Empowering Youth for Viksit Bharat, and Nasha Mukti Yuva for Viksit Bharat.
