Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police launched a series of raids across the state on August 1, arresting four militant cadres and one alleged arms dealer. The operations targeted insurgent networks and illegal supply lines.
In Imphal West, troops arrested 24-year-old Wahengbam Mayday Singh, a member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), at his home in Awangkhunou Lamkhai. Police also apprehended a second RPF/PLA cadre, 41-year-old Ngangbam Nanao Singh, at his residence in Bishnupur district.
Authorities focused heavily on the NH-37 highway. Security teams arrested 32-year-old Lungthaukhon Panmei, a cadre with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K), near Kaimai police station. Officers seized a Baofeng radio, 13 receipt memos, seven tokens, and Rs 2,800 in cash. Officials suspect the items were used for extortion. The police stated, "The seized receipt books and tokens are suspected to have been used for unlawful collection activities."
In Imphal East, police arrested 56-year-old Laishram Lakpati Singh. They found a No. 36 hand grenade and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition on him. Investigators identified him as a middleman involved in the illegal trade of arms and explosives.
Separate search operations in a forest area near the Myanmar border led to a major seizure. Between Border Pillars 72 and 73 near Moreh, security forces recovered one 9mm pistol, a double-barrel gun, six radio sets, and two hand grenades. They also found six improvised explosive devices. The team destroyed the IEDs on site. Investigations into these militant groups continue.
