Security Forces Raid Insurgent Camp and Arrest Four in Manipur

Imphal: Central security forces and Manipur Police busted a temporary insurgent hideout in the Imphal East district. This success followed a 36-hour sweep across the region. Four militants are now in custody. Police launched the operation after interrogating suspects who spilled the location of the base in the Seijang Cheirao Ching foothills.

The raid netted a significant weapons haul. Officers recovered one .303 rifle, three 12-bore single-barrel guns, one .22 rifle, and an anti-riot gun. The cache also held three mortar shells, two No. 36 hand grenades, three tear smoke grenades, five wireless sets, and an AK rifle magazine. Authorities counted 43 live rounds of various calibres during the inventory.

Police conducted separate arrests elsewhere. Officers took Marcus Thiyam, 22, and Heikrujam William Meitei, 22, into custody at Nungoo Lamkhai. Both men live in Kakching and represent the Socialist Revolutionary Party. Separately, police caught 21-year-old Yendrembam Athouba Meitei in an abandoned New Lambulane house. He belongs to the Revolutionary People’s Front, the political arm of the banned People’s Liberation Army.

Finally, police nabbed 52-year-old Yensenbam Chandrasen Meitei at Langdum Lamkhai. He is an alleged extortionist for the Kangleipak Communist Party-Meeyamgi Feengang Lanmi. Officials stated the "arrested cadres were allegedly involved in extortion activities across the valley districts." Detectives are now digging into their networks.
