Imphal: Security forces and Manipur Police swept through valley districts this week, arresting multiple insurgent-linked extortionists, militants, and a drug peddler. These operations resulted in the recovery of arms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles.

Police arrested Heisnam Leabanand Singh, 43, from his home in Pishumthong Oinam Leikai for alleged Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) extortion. In Kakching district, forces picked up Usham Rojit Kumar, 20, identified as a cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the outlawed People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Raids also netted four Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) members. Mayanglambam Nimaichand, 25, and Mayanglambam Khoiraba, 27, were apprehended in Kakching. Officers also seized an Activa DLX scooter from Md. Majahar Ali, 52, an alleged SOREPA extortionist detained on Ayang Palli Road. Separately, police captured Shagolsem David Singh, a self-styled private of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-PRO), in Thoubal. Another RPF-PLA member, Pheiroijam Karanjoy Singh, 25, was arrested in Imphal East, leading to the recovery of a hand grenade, an INSAS rifle magazine, and three rifle cartridges.

Authorities also targeted local crime. Lilong police detained Dolaipabam Asif Hussain, 20, finding 139 grams of suspected brown sugar, a scooter, and two mobile phones. A separate investigation into vehicle theft led to the recovery of a Honda Activa stolen near the Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena during a Durand Cup match.

Tensions spiked in Jiribam after police arrested three cadres linked to the Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF). Local groups, including the Jiribam Ima Meira Paibi Lup (JIMPAL), claimed the men were lured to the station under the guise of peace talks. Nongthombam Kumari, secretary of JIMPAL, stated: "The organisations would impose a total and indefinite shutdown across Jiribam district" if the men are not released.

Meanwhile, the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) clarified internal leadership roles. The group stated that PS Haokip remains president of the KNO, noting that his recent removal only concerned his separate presidency of the Kuki National Army.
