Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces locked up two active insurgents and one drug dealer. The arrests spanned three separate operations over two days. Officials confirmed the crackdown aims to stem rising crime in the region.
Security forces picked up Leishangthem Lamnganba Singh, also known as Nungsiba or Naoba, on July 29. The 23-year-old KCP Nongdrenkhomba cadre was arrested at his home in Thangmeiband Polem Leikai. This operation fell under the jurisdiction of the Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district.
Police struck again on July 30. They arrested Mangkhom Keshokumar Singh, 45, alias Ibungo, near the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences. The KYKL cadre resides in Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai and faced accusations of extortion. Officers from the Lamphel Police Station handled the arrest.
Also on July 30, forces stopped a white Bolero with registration number NL07CC-2510 at the T-Khullen check post. They found 1.120 kg of suspected heroin and 5,000 rupees in cash inside the vehicle. Alal Uddin, 33, from Assam's Morigaon district, was arrested at the scene under the Senapati Police Station. Officials stated, "Further investigation into all three cases is underway."
