Imphal: Security forces arrested 13 suspected militants and seized a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during a two-day crackdown across Manipur. Coordinated raids by the Manipur Police, Indian Army, and Assam Rifles hit Thoubal, Tamenglong, Kakching, Chandel, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts.
In Imphal West, police picked up Wahengbam Mayday Singh, 24, a Revolutionary People’s Front or People’s Liberation Army cadre, at his Awangkhunou Lamkhai home. Authorities also arrested Ngangbam Nanao Singh, 41, of the same outfit in Bishnupur’s Wangoo Ahallup Sanasam Leikai area. In Tamenglong, security forces caught Lungthaukhon Panmei, 32, an NSCN-K cadre, on National Highway-37. They seized a Baofeng handset, seven tokens, and 13 receipts bearing the name of the “Government of Republic of Nagaland” along with Rs 2,800 in cash.
Near the India-Myanmar border, a joint team used a sniffer dog to scour the forest between Border Pillars 72 and 73 in Tengnoupal district. They recovered a 9mm pistol, a double-barrel gun, six radio sets, two hand grenades, and six improvised explosive devices. Bomb disposal experts destroyed the IEDs on site. Separately, near Border Pillar 69, forces arrested three Kangleipak Communist Party-Meeyamgee Feengnag Lanmee cadres: Yumkhaibam Rojit, 26, Khumanthem Bidyasagar, 24, and Hemam Arun Singh, 27.
In Imphal East, police arrested Laishram Lakpati Singh, 56, for allegedly trafficking weapons, seizing a No. 36 hand grenade and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Officials linked the detainees to criminal activity, including kidnapping and extortion. Amid the operations, DGP Mukesh Singh visited the 1st Manipur Rifles battalion to review infrastructure and modernization efforts. Authorities have since set up 113 checkpoints statewide and continue to provide armed escorts for vehicles on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway.
